Happy Houseplants started in a cosy, repurposed barn that’s had many lives before ours—from a piggery to a stable for horses. Now, it’s our little plant haven. Small and tightly packed, it’s the heart of everything we do, and it reflects how we work: thoughtful, intentional, and always striving to do things better.
We believe in keeping things simple and meaningful. That’s why we only stock plants that we know can thrive in real homes—species we’ve grown and cared for ourselves. Unlike the big supermarket model, which treats plants as disposable, we focus on helping you find the right plant for the right place so you can enjoy long-term success.
When your plants thrive, it’s not just good for you—it’s better for the planet, too.
What We Stand For
As a small, family-run business, we’re not perfect, but we’re trying. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do—not because it’s trendy, but because it matters to us, and to you.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Beautifully Simple Packaging: We use 100% recyclable materials to pack your plants safely for all weather and handling conditions. There’s no plastic tape or unnecessary paperwork—care instructions are delivered electronically. It’s practical, efficient, and kind to the planet.
Reducing Green Waste: We help you choose the right plant for your space and provide clear guidance to keep it thriving. Fewer discarded plants mean less waste—a win for everyone.
Collaborating with Like-Minded Brands: We’re proud to work with partners like Worcester Terrariums, Soil Ninja, Liquid Gold Leaf, and Sarh, The Plant Rescuer, who share our values of sustainability and care.
For us, sustainability isn’t about being perfect—it’s about making thoughtful choices every day.
Pioneering the Plant Rescue Box
One of our proudest achievements is being the original collaborators on the Plant Rescue Box with Sarah from The Plant Rescuer. What started as a simple idea—finding homes for slightly imperfect plants—has since gone global, inspiring plant lovers around the world to rethink waste in the houseplant industry.
These boxes give plants with a damaged leaf or slight imperfection a second chance. It’s a simple yet powerful way to reduce green waste while making plant care more accessible and affordable.
Hearing your stories about these rescued plants thriving in their new homes keeps us going. Every time a “rescued” plant finds a happy corner in someone’s home, it’s a reminder of why we do this.
Our Chelsea Gold Medal Legacy
In 2023, we were honoured to win a Gold Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for our Houseplant Studio.
Standing there among the world’s best displays, it hit us just how far we’d come as a small business. For us, this wasn’t just about recognition—it was a chance to show that sustainable plant care can be beautiful, impactful, and accessible.
Our studio highlighted how thoughtful design and carefully chosen plants can transform indoor spaces while supporting the planet. It was a proud moment, but more importantly, it reaffirmed everything we stand for: quality plants, sustainable care, and meaningful connections to nature.
Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring Change
We believe education is the root of better plant care and greener choices, which is why our blog has become a cornerstone of Happy Houseplants. It’s where we share practical advice, inspiring stories, and conversations with people who are shaping the future of sustainability and houseplant care.
Some of our favourite interviews include:
Juliana Leroy: Exploring how plants play a vital role in conserving ecosystems, both indoors and in the wild.
Tai Streitman: Connecting with nature through biotopes and creating ecosystems at home.
Kellyn Kennerly: Avoiding “killing with kindness” and making plant care a mindful, sustainable practice.
Mary Ellen: Sharing practical wisdom to help plants thrive.
From Roots to Blooms: Bringing together expert voices from the plant world to inspire and educate.
Through these conversations, we’re building a community of people who care about plants, the planet, and each other.
Why It Matters
Plants are more than just decoration—they’re a way to bring life, joy, and calm into your home. Whether it’s reducing stress, improving air quality, or simply creating a peaceful corner in your space, plants have a way of making things better.
But it’s not just about the plants—it’s about what they represent. Choosing a plant that thrives, rescuing one that needs a little extra love, or growing something with care is a small but meaningful way to connect with the world around us.
Small, Independent, and Purpose-Driven
We’ve made a conscious choice to stay small and independent. We don’t take on investors or rush to grow for the sake of profit. Why? Because we want to do things the right way.
This independence allows us to:
Focus on sustainability instead of cutting corners.
Make decisions that align with our values, not investor demands.
Provide personalised care and attention to every customer and plant.
We’re here to grow slowly and sustainably, ensuring that every step we take reflects what’s most important to us: quality, care, and the environment.
Growing Greener, Together
At Happy Houseplants, we know we’re not perfect, but we’re trying. Every plant we sell, every blog we write, and every decision we make is about helping you grow with confidence while creating a greener future.
We wouldn’t be here without you. Every purchase, every rescued plant story, every kind word about your plants thriving—it all inspires us to keep going. Thank you for being part of our journey.
